Tricks in fingerboarding are the same as in skateboarding with some differences to take in the fact that rotations of the hand are limited. There have been some fingerboarders to prove the rotations of the wrist can be altered with starting positions and being willing to move your arm in an otherwise uncomfortable motion. Josh Jones performed a full rotated 900 on a vert while Deshawn Harris has performed Misty Flips, Rodeos and Backflips.
- Aerials: A term more for vert riding, it means any such move done above the coping of the ramp. Full hand flips and rotations, as well as grabs would fall under this category.
- Flip tricks are moves with the bases of an Ollie. The board leaves the fingers after being flicked in whichever manner to get the board to flip or spin. With specific mannerisms of the fingers, the fingerboarder can recreate many of the tricks done in skateboarding today.
- Slides (trick) and Grinds (trick) involve sliding the board across a ledge or rail on either the wood side of the deck, the trucks or the grip tape. Its very common to mix flip tricks in with slides and grinds both into and out of.
- Lip tricks are done on the coping of a pool or vertical ramp. Most moving slides and grinds make up lip tricks, which are basically stationary slide or grind tricks.
- Pressure flips are performed differently than normal flip tricks in that the board flips using pressure technique in areas of the tail/nose with the foot you pop with.
- Manual tricks are balancing tricks done on either the nose truck or the tail truck, or even one wheel or one wheel on either side of the board(preferably the same side).
